April 1, 2010Former state Sen. James Condos made a return to the Statehouse Wednesday as he announced his bid to replace outgoing Secretary of State Deborah Markowitz.
Condos, who served eight years in the Vermont Senate, was surrounded by his former colleagues from both chambers of the Legislature as he formally entered the race for one of the state’s top elected positions.

Condos who represented Chittenden County in the state Senate from 2001 to 2008, declared that he would bring a new level of transparency to the office, now held by gubernatorial candidate Deb Markowitz — though he declined to point to specific instances in which the secretary had not enforced the public right to know law.
