Jim’s First Six Months
Dear Friends,
I would like to thank you, again, for your support in making it possible for me to be elected Vermont’s Secretary of State last November. I am truly enjoying the work and the people that I have met over the last six months.
I am working diligently to improve the quality of service, efficiency and productivity in the Secretary of State’s office. I would like to share with you what my office has accomplished since January:
- Worked tirelessly with the Legislature to pass H.73 – Access to Public Records
- o 1st major strengthening of Public Records laws since 1976
- o Improved government accountability
- Supported the passage of National Popular Vote – signed into law by Governor Shumlin
- o I was lead sponsor in the Senate in 2008 when former Governor Douglas vetoed it
- Worked with Governor Shumlin to reduce the reliance on taxpayer dollars by my office
- o 12% reduction in approved General Fund budgets – FY11 vs. FY12
- Worked to improve Campaign Finance/Lobbyist Disclosure information to be more accessible to the public
- Reorganized the Secretary of State’s Technology and Corporations Divisions
- Appointed to leadership positions for the National Association of Secretaries of State
- o Co-Chair of the Elections Committee with the Lieutenant Governor of Utah
- o Member of the National Business Identity Theft Task Force
- Moved our offices to 128 State Street for better public accessibility
The conservative Caledonian Record editorial regarding public records stated:
“We congratulate Jim Condos on his honesty and commitment to Vermonters.”
July 15, 2011 is the first campaign finance filing for this next election cycle and it is important to show strength going forward. I hope that you are pleased with the work I am doing and will consider making a donation to my campaign today.
Can you help me today with a contribution of $500, $250, $100, $50, or any other amount?
My door is always open and I am very interested in your ideas and thoughts as to how my office can improve our work.
Sincerely,
Jim Condos
