Labor group endorses Condos for Secretary of State

By Terri Hallenbeck

Vermont’s coalition of labor groups voted Sunday to back longtime labor supporters for election, including Democratic Sen. Doug Racine of Richmond, who is in a five-way primary race for governor.

The endorsements likely provide boosts to the candidates but no guarantee of victory in the election. Two years ago, the AFL-CIO endorsed Progressive Anthony Pollina for governor, a blow to Democratic candidate Gaye Symington, but both fell far short in the general election against Republican Jim Douglas.

The union selected Howard for lieutenant governor over fellow Democratic Rep. Chris Bray, D-New Haven, and two Republicans, Sen. Phil Scott and businessman Mark Snelling.

Condos won the nomination for secretary of state over fellow Democrat Charles Merriman and Republicans Jason Gibbs and Chris Roy.
